The application of permanent makeup is extremely complex….. it might look easy but it really isn’t! It is not something that is learned or mastered quickly and the artist you choose should be very well qualified, and have VERY high standards if they are to work on your face. Choosing the right person can be a minefield so here are a few tips to help:

LIKE THEIR STYLE: Permanent makeup is an art, so your decision as to who carries out this important work for you should be influenced by their style of work too. Find an artist whose work meets with the vision you have in mind.If you are looking for a strong brow for example, and you are viewing soft natural brows, chances are that person is not going to be right for you and you won’t be happy with the result.

HAVE A GOOD CHAT!: Always have a consultation…. with two or three different people if needed. A reputable permanent makeup artist will encourage you to do this. They should make you feel confident, excited and at ease about everything. You should be fully informed of everything before going ahead with treatment.

FEEL CONFIDENT!: At consultation, you should expect to receive comprehensive information regarding your chosen treatment, be able to ask as many questions as you need, not feel pushed for time, be made to feel special and excited, be patch tested for the products used, all future costs should be clearly pointed out, any potential complications should be explained, and the area to be treated should be drawn on so you have a good idea of what to expect after your first appointment.

TREAD CAREFULLY: Do not go ahead with treatment by simply viewing the persons website, make sure you meet them first and that you feel confident they are experienced enough for you and that their qualifications are relevant before you go ahead – anyone can set up an all-singing, all-dancing website, you’d be amazed at the number of unscrupulous people that steal genuine artist’s photographs and pass these off as their own work, just to make quick money. In an unregulated industry, you must first do some research.

PLAY DETECTIVE!: Check and double-check their work. Do they have recent pictures they can show you? Do they have client reviews/ testimonials anywhere? Can you talk to any of their past clients if you need to?

BE VIGILANT: Their establishment should be spotless and be local authority licenced with a certificate displayed. They should be fully insured, well qualified and experienced. Check with your local council to see if they are licenced if you are unsure at all.

FEEL AT EASE: They should be sympathetic, understanding and listen to you well. Friendly, professional and genuine.

PRICE: Do not be led by cost, cheap offers or cheap deals. This could easily end in tears! Good training, quality equipment, nice premises, A1 service are just a few of the things you should expect, and they are not cheap too.

GUT INSTINCT: Listen to it! Any slight feeling of uncertainty, do not go ahead.

GET EXCITED! You should feel happy, excited & confident about your new treatment if you have found the right person for you! Everyone relates to someone differently; every permanent makeup artist will work differently. Take your time, find the right person that suits you, have the treatment carried out correctly and safely from the start, and you will be so glad you went ahead!
